Lord Stone of Blackheath

Lord Stone was raised to the peerage as Baron Stone of Blackheath in 1997. He joined Marks and Spencer plc as a Trainee in 1966 and retired his position as joint Managing Director of the Company in 1999. He has vast experience as a Director of two retail companies, several NGOs and is involved in several charities, including the Anglo-Ecuadorian Society. As Patron of Orphaids, he first visited the Ecuador site in February 2002, where he met the children and houseparents. He has had hands-on experience of the day-to-day lives within this small community. He returned to Orphaids again in the Autumn of 2002 with the British Ambassador, introducing the Ambassador to the charity and its people. His last visit was in February 2003, where he acted as a confidante and consultant to key workers within the organisation.

Our Trustees

Alan Digman OBE - Chair of Trustees

Alan Digman OBE

Alan currently holds the role of Chair of Trustees. He is a retired Civil Servant, having latterly served as IT Security Officer at the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy. Alan was awarded an OBE in the Queen's 2020 New Year Honours List for services to Government Security and to Charity. He worships with his wife, Mary, at Hurst Green Parish Church, East Sussex.

Mary Digman - Treasurer

Mary Digman

Mary, a retired Senior Theatre Practitioner in the NHS, is the charity Treasurer. Mary worships with her husband, Alan, at Hurst Green Parish Church, East Sussex.

Terry Pickford - Trustee

Terry Pickford

Terry, is a retired Secondary School Teacher. He has been a trustee of Orphaids since the very start and worships at Sandhurst Baptist Church, Kent.

David Watson - Trustee

David Watson

David, is a retired Agronomist. Both he and his wife have been long-time supporters of Orphaids and he worships at Sandhurst Baptist Church, Kent.
